Patient Services

What do I bring to my first appointment?

To assist you, we have prepared the following checklist for your first appointment.

Please make sure that you bring the following:

  • The referral from your doctor
  • Any X Rays, ultrasounds, MRI's or pathology results relating to your current condition
  • A list of your current medications
  • Any questions relating to your condition or possible treatment
  • Your Medicare card and Veterans Affairs card (if applicable)
  • Your private health fund details (if applicable)

Work Cover Patients: it is essential that you bring the name, address and telephone number of your insurer along with your current claim number. If you have not obtained a claim number prior to your first appointment you are responsible for paying for the consultation on the day of your appointment.

Information about our billing system

My reception staff are able to provide costs for initial and follow up consultations at the time of making your appointment.

I ask that all consultation fees are paid on the day of your appointment.

My practice does offer a reduced fee for Pension Card holders.

My practice does not have a reduced fee for Health Care Card holders.

Fees can be paid by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.

If you have a current referral from your local doctor or another specialist you are able to claim a rebate through Medicare.

Until you have had a consultation with Dr Welsh, we are unable to provide you with a quote for any surgical procedures.

Once the decision has been made to consider surgery, we are then able to provide you with a full itemised quote.

This will outline the surgeons fees, based on the proposed surgery, the amount rebatable through Medicare and your private health fund, and the out of pocket expense you will incur for surgery.

The pre-operative quote will enable you to be prepared for the expenses that will be incurred for the proposed surgery.

Dr Welsh's practice does participate in "known gap " arrangements with some health funds on a case by case basis.

Anaesthetic charges are at the discretion of the Anaesthetist.  Surgical patients are provided with the contact details for the Anaesthetic practice prior to surgery to make enquiries regarding fees.

A Surgical Assistant is present for most procedures. The fees incurred are MBS only and are billed by Dr Welsh on behalf of the Surgical Assistant.

Pathology and Radiology costs may also apply to inpatient care.

If the patient needs to see a Physician post surgery, this may also incur further costs.
